Did Albert Einstein read the Urantia Book?

On the Blog site of the Finnish daily newspaper Uusi Suomi, Finnish reader Stefan Tallquist posted a speculation that Albert Einstein may have been an early reader of The Urantia Book. Einstein died in his sleep at Princeton Hospital in the USA in April 1955. It’s known that the first copies of The Urantia Book didn’t go on sale until October of that year, in Chicago, but Tallquist speculates that some pre-production copies of the book were circulated by Dr. Sadler in the months beforehand to certain well-known scientists. The source of the speculation about Einstein is the report that a group of physicists visited Einstein’s deathbed and found a copy of the book on his bedside table. I don’t have any verification of this, but it seems almost plausible.

Graduation of Janelle Balnicke

Our friend and fellow truth-seeker of more than ten years, Janelle Balnicke, passed from this earthly life after a long illness in January 2022. She was a regular attender at our study groups over the years, and shared her quiet and thoughtful wisdom with us. She also hosted some meetings near her home in Worthing on the South Coast in the years before she moved to the West Country. We knew that she had been physically suffering in recent years and wasn’t able to join our study groups.
Before we knew her in this country, Janelle had a successful career in the film industry in the USA, with a special interest in ecological documentary films.
Unfortunately we haven’t been given details of any funeral or memorial service, so we have to assume she was ushered out of this world in a private way.
We cherish your memory, Janelle.

Mark Bloomfield – an appreciation

On 18th July 2019 one of the seminal figures in the Urantia readers’ movement in Britain and the world was suddenly and cruelly taken from us. According to media reports, Mark, who was 54, was involved in a ‘brawl’ or some sort of violent altercation at a pub in Swansea, and died of the injuries he sustained.

Many of you who are reading this will not have known Mark. It is more than a decade, closer to two, since Mark’s path and mine crossed. He came into our lives quite suddenly, around 1994, when he turned to the Urantia Foundation office in Britain, which I was running at the time, and offered to take a stock of Urantia Books in his car around Britain and donate them to libraries. It was my job to provide the stock, and the addresses of the libraries. Mark spent weeks and weeks on the road, living frugally and often sleeping in his car, and successfully completed the mission. Next he decided to donate to Britain’s prison libraries. He also toured Ireland, donating Urantia Books to public libraries as well. He was a young man of energy and determination.

This web-site is the bulletin board of the Urantia Association of Great Britain and Ireland.  We are an association of readers in Britain and Ireland of The Urantia Book, the Fifth Epochal Revelation to mankind, and we are an integral part of the Urantia Association International, which brings together readers of the revelation from all over the world.

This website will be complemented by a newsletter, The Ascender, which will contain much the same material, at least for the time being. A different arrangement, but familiar too, I hope. This newsletter is still intended to bring together the widely scattered readership of the Fifth Epochal Revelation in the UK and Ireland, and as your editor I’ll welcome contributions from you.
